Damn - but hey, it amuses anyway

You know how you see something that you just have to photograph, and you don’t bother - then it’s gone?

I drive most days through a hamlet called Westfield. Over the last few Christmases one row of houses has taken the decoration ‘thing’ to the extreme. It started off as a small effort, then, obviously spured on by the ‘better than neighbour’ syndrome, it got grossly out of proportion until this year it was hard to drive by without running into badly parked cars and gawpers. Several detatched houses also went overboard and murdered their shrieking credit cards at B&Q or somesuch.

Everyday I meant to snap the ‘thing’, and finally, today, knowing twelveth night was nigh I parked and: woe and thrice woe! Only one lit up. Still I think it’s a worthy snap (though the picture doesn’t really do it justice). This Christmas I’ll do better.

Anyone who says the british are lunatics are right.
